Getting from Josep Tarradellas Barcelona El Prat (BCN) to Barcelona - Airport City Transfer
You touch down in Barcelona and now you start wondering how to get to the center quickly. Fret not, the answer is right here.
How to get from Josep Tarradellas BNC Airport to the city center of Barcelona
Depending on your budget or haste there's the following options:
- Train
- Aerobus
- Uber
- Taxi
- Private car
Renfe [R2N] Train - Cheapest option but beware of co-travelers
You get to destinations in Barcelona City center via the R2 Nord (R2N) train line which departs every 30 minutes from Terminal 2 of the airport. It stops at a variety of stations but to get to the popular Gothic Neighborhood takes about 27 minutes trains, costing around 30 minutes. You can only purchase tickets at the vending machines at a price of around €4.30, but if you're planning on using public transport during your stay it's by far more convenient to purchase a T-casual aeroport ticket, which gives you access to any means of public transport within Barcelona zone 1 for 10 journeys, at a cost of only €7.95! And for unlimited transportation during a 48, 72, 96 or 120 hour period, consider purchasing a Hola Barcelona pass.
⚠️ Warning: I've read negative comments regarding the safety at the "Sants" station. Although R2N passes through that station you should generally be safe on board.
Downside: If you miss a departure you'll have to wait up to 30 minutes for the next. And odds are the train station isn't close to your final destinations so be prepared to drag some suitcases along with you.
Aerobus - Cheap but not optimal
Another great option to get to the city center is via the Aerobus, an airport↔city center shuttle service. It's the most commonly used means of transport for travelers arriving by air which departs every 5 minutes, 24 hours per day.
Stops on the way to the City Center:
Stops on the way to the airport:
- Pl. Catalunya
- Sepúlveda-Urgell
- Pl. Espanya
- Airport
Upside: 5-minute departures, all year round, 24H per day.
Downside: You still need to get from the bus stop to your final destination.
Advice: Buy your tickets in advance!
Private car - Family Friendly - Very comfortable
The most comfortable option for families is a pre-arranged private car.
At €59 it'll take you from the airport to anywhere in the city.
It brings you straight to where you need to be, but depending on your group size it may be a more expensive option.
Uber - Very comfortable
Uber users get to anywhere in the center of Barcelona at around €40.
It brings you straight to where you need to be, but not the best choice for groups of 4-8 people.
Note that regular taxis tend to be a little bit cheaper and often also faster as there are many waiting at the airport already!
Taxi - Very comfortable
One of the most hassle free ways to get to the city center is by taxi.
Official taxis tend to be cheaper than Uber so expect to pay around €37.
By law they should allow credit card payments but they don't always do.
Traveling on a budget
If you wanna save a buck go for the bus or train options. It'll be more hassle with your luggage but you'll save some money to go see the sights of Barcelona. If you want comfort and don't mind it comes with a price, do for the different Taxi options.
